This tome contains musings: some wisdom, some rant.
Some will find truth here. Some won't and some can't.
Summary:
Some of what is said here will "ring true" as truth for some people.
Other people may not find anything here that "rings true" for them.
And still more will find that some or all "feels right" to them,
but will refuse to examine it for fear it will threaten their existing
belief system. And some will find that nothing here resonates with
them at all. Each response is as valid as the others.
Lecture:
We all view the Universe through the prism of our own perceptions.
A prism takes a pure white light and splits it into the various
colors that make it up. The rainbow you see is the spread of uniform
white light into the spectrum that, when combined together, creates
it.
If you look directly into a prism, you will see one or more colors.
If you move to look at the prism from another angle, you will see
a different set of colors.
The light hasn't changed at all, only the portion of the light
that you can see from your new position has changed.
This is how Truth is most of the time. What appears to be Truth
often depends on where you are standing. Your perspective is what
makes the difference.
As a physical example, two people both looking into the light coming
out of a prism at the same time will not see the exact same colors,
but what each sees is Truly what they perceive. The bigger Truth
is that they are both correct (about the colors striking their eyes),
and both incorrect (as they are only viewing a small portion of
White light).
As we move through life, the prisms and lenses (which make things
appear larger, smaller, in-focus or out-of-focus) through which
we view life change. This does not mean that the world has necessarily
changed, only our perception of it.
As a mundane example of this, a few years ago I bought a car. I
like the design of it, which is why I bought it. However, after
I had purchased it, I suddenly noticed other cars like mine everywhere.
I was amazed at how many of them I saw, when I had never even noticed
them before. This was because I was using a "lens" of
my model of car, which brought them into focus for me in the world
around me. Or you could say that I was looking at the "my model
car" section of the prism of the world around me, which made
it more visible all around me.
Aside from the mundane examples of this, the same principle applies
in our spiritual lives. Your personal beliefs and experiences create
the prisms and lenses through which you view the world. Our prisms
don't normally reveal to us the full spectrum of the Universe around
us, but only a small portion of the spectrum. As we go though life
(or lives) the portion of the spectrum we can see shifts, expands
and contracts, providing us with different views of the Universe.
For example, someone who has not had a spiritual component to their
life would be considered to only see the physical aspects of the
Universe's spectrum. When many people begin to add a spiritual component
to their lives, their spectrum either (1) shifts from the physical
realm to the spiritual realm or (2) broadens to include both the
physical and spiritual realms.
What seems to happen to most people is that they first shift from
purely physical to almost purely spiritual, and then broadens to
include both as they integrate their spirituality into their lives.
Since everybody sees the Universe around them differently, we each
have our own set of Truths, which, at least to us, are accurate
ways of viewing the world. However, since we all have different
perspectives, we do not all share the same Truths. For this reason,
for some people these writings will "ring true" while
for others they will sound good, but don't really fit their lives,
and for others it will sound like a load of rubbish.
This does not make what is written here any more or less True.
It is just a reflection of where people are in relation to this
information. If they "share the same spectrum" as this
information, they will probably agree with it, if they "share
some spectrum" with these ideas they will probably find it
interesting but without the Truth feeling to go with it. If they
are "on a completely different wavelength" it will probably
sound like rubbish to them.
Likewise, if you are talking to someone about this stuff and they
totally do not "get it" that is fine. It just means that
they are not looking at things the same way you are. It doesn't
mean that you are wrong or that they are. In fact, you can both
be correct -- just from looking at it from you own perspectives.
Lab:
- List some occasions where you suddenly "tuned into"
something and suddenly found it all around you in your everyday
life (like the type of car in my story above).
- List some things that are True for you, but are Not True for
someone else in your life.
- Find some objects that exhibit a prismatic effect - they change
appearance as you change your perspective to them.
- Try meditating on one of these objects. Focus on broadening
your "personal spectrum" to allow you to perceive more
of the world around you, or narrowing it to help you better focus
on a particular aspect you are working on.
